History of Log Home Building in North America
The log home represents the oldest home building tradition in North America. It is a tradition that dates back to the Scandinavian master craftsmen in Europe. Most other European building techniques had to be abandoned when the settlers came to North America because the climate here was just too harsh: too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. This is why the log cabin is the traditional home of North America, associated with the fur traders, settlers and early presidents. They are our oldest structures: the mountain cabins, little homes on the prairie, and the original homes and businesses in small towns throughout the continent. The reason we have this tradition here today is that it works. It has withstood the "test of time."

Not only has this tradition withstood the test of time, but in this modern age it has withstood the "time of test." It has withstood the rigors of scientific scrutiny. Recent research and state of the art lab tests show that the Scandinavian Log Home Building Tradition not only still works, but also how and why it works. In fact, it shows that it outperforms the conventional stick or masonry home of today.
This homebuilding tradition is vital today because it has fully embraced the modern era and has continued to adapt to current needs and to incorporate the latest techniques and materials that have been found to improve the state of the art of log home building. Who knows how long the log homes of today will last? Ancient Log, Post & Beam and Timber Frame temples in the Himalayas have lasted for thousands of years. Perhaps our modern log homes will be here for the millennium. Who knows? But one thing is for sure: "a thing of beauty is a joy forever." Certainly you can enjoy your new log home for a lifetime. It is possible that it may even live on as your legacy to your family as a part of your own family tradition - a place to live, prosper and grow for generations to come.
