There are several distinct design themes to choose from.

There are certain key questions that you can ask yourself that will help you find your design theme. And once you have your theme the rest of the pieces just come together quite naturally. Every choice thereafter is shaped by your theme and the choices are then very simple and easy to make. Without a theme you are like a ship lost at sea with no idea of a destination. Your design theme will give you a port to steer your ship home. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
The first decision to make is what type of log home do you want?

Do you prefer a more traditional look of a Handcrafted beauty?

Do you like the modern lines of a Manufactured Log Home?

Do you prefer the lines of the traditional Handcrafted Crafted Log Home but your budget is tight and your space needs are such that you can't build a smaller home? In this case a Manufactured Log Home with Handcrafted Features could very well fulfill your heart's desire.

The Post and Beam and Timber Frame options provide an interesting choice that is not so 'loggy' in nature but still has a rustic appeal and the warmth and splendor of natural wood. These options also provide savings over full log walls and yet are built such that the framework is substantial - something that will last many lifetimes.

Where will the home be located? If it is in suburbia you might consider
a Manufactured Log Home with square logs and no notches at the corners.
Or, do want to live in suburbia but you are bold and don't mind standing
out in the community? If so, you can certainly still go for the traditional
look - many people do. The only thing you have to check on is whether
there are restrictive covenants in your subdivision that require a certain
type of home? - like brick veneer for example. Or is there an architectural
review committee that has to approve your design? If you require assistance
with either of these situations we are happy to help. We have been down
this road before. Did you know that most log homes are being built in
or near major cities? So you are not alone. Be brave; you can have your
location and your log home too. There is no need to move to the wilderness
to enjoy the benefits of log home living; not that there is any thing
wrong with that either. It is what you really want that counts. You
should just go for it. After all it is still a free country.
Do
both of your utterly adore the notion of a log home or is one of you
kind of going along with the other's deep desire? If this is the case
it is often easiest if you come up with a theme that you both like and
then consider how to build it with logs. What we recommend here is that
you find pictures of homes that you both like and then look to see what
features they have that are attractive to the both of you. If you provide
us with a list of those features and examples of homes you both like,
even if none of those examples are log homes, we will have enough information
from which to provide you with some suggested log home design options.
It doesn't have to be a battle. You can both have what you want most.
For example, with the Post & Beam and Timber Frame options it is possible
to build a home that shows little or no wood on the outside and yet
on the inside there is the wood that makes you feel so warm, safe and
cozy.
Another
option in this situation - where one person wants logs and the other
doesn't - is to identify which rooms are most important to each of you.
Have logs or posts and beams showing in the rooms that the log lover
loves most, and conventional painted drywall in the other rooms. The
two themes work well together. The smooth flat walls provide a stunning
contrast to the wood accents of the house. They also make the interior
lighter. It is most often best to have a mix in the interior of log
walls and drywall or plaster walls.
