Aside from the natural, warmth, beauty and splendor...
Why would you want to build one of our log homes?

  • Thermal Mass
The thick wood walls of our homes have thermal properties that exceed the performance of conventional stick built homes. They store warmth in the winter and cool in the summer. You will feel more comfortable all year long and you will save money on heating and cooling costs year after year. The thick log walls provide better sound insulation than a conventioanlly built home, creating a quiter living environment for you and your family.

  • Natural Negative Ion Generator and Air Purifier
Tests show that our log walls promote healthy negative ion generation allowing you to naturally feel good, like walking in a forest. Our log walls also absorb and lead away air pollutants from the interior of the home, naturally eliminating the "sick home syndrome," making your home a healthy place to live and raise your family.

  • Breathing Wall System
Our log homes utilize the thick "breathing walled system" that naturally exchanges air and moisture, reducing the moisture build up, mold growth, and indoor air pollution associated with the modern thin walled vapor barrier envelope of the conventionally built home.

  • Self Regulating Wall System
Our log walls absorb moisture from the air in the summer and give it back in the winter, so you wont need to use a dehumidifier in the summer and a humidifier in the winter. You will be comfortable year round and enjoy lower energy costs.

  • Sustainable Log Building and Development
Sustainability in log building and development in North America dates back to the Scandinavian roots of the log home tradition. These earliest settlers cleared just enough forestland to create their villages and then air-dried the fallen timbers to then construct their homes and villages. Today, as we continue the "green building" movement they started, we construct our Evergreen Homes and developments from the same natural and renewable materials as our forefathers did. Evergreen Homes employs modern energy saving, healthful and sustainable protocols and procedures to provide you with the most comfortable, affordable and environmentally responsible home available. Conventional building methods by contrast use highly processed dimensional lumber, plywood and particleboard wrapped up in plastic and then clad with vinyl siding. The result of this shortsighted process is the "sick house syndrome" and housing that is the second highest contributor to global warming. We design your Evergreen Home to be energy self-sufficient or at the very least energy efficient utilizing the very best technologies to harness the renewable resources of the sun, wind, and earth to heat and cool and fuel your home throughout its entire life cycle. And even after many centuries of use when the home is finally no longer practically serviceable this home will be carefully deconstructed for its valuable component parts. The logs or timbers will be reused or milled into new quality timbers for the construction of another sustainable structure. This is stark contrast to the conventional stick built home that is soon to be "bulldozer bait" destined for the landfill. Our LEED (Leardership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional (AP) can Certifiy your Log, Timber Frame or panelized Evergreen building.

  • Better Investment
Our log homes are built better, last longer, use less energy, cost you less money to own and operate and have a higher resale value than conventionally built homes. They represent a better value and are a superior investment, whether you intend to own long term or resell in a few years.

If you are like us, you are naturally skeptical, curious and scientifically minded. Thus we have included research studies and white papers so that you can begin your own personal research. Please feel free to call or email your questions or comments.

  • The Energy Performance of Log Homes [view PDF report]
This white paper, produced by an independent consultant for the NAHB Log Homes Council, is a builder and consumer-oriented summary of documented studies and analysis of energy efficiency and the role of thermal mass in homes that use log wall construction.

The result of a comprehensive review of literature indicates that in most US climates there are proven benefits of thermal mass - using a wall's heat capacity - to control and reduce annual heating and cooling energy demand. These properties of log homes significantly benefit homeowners, and also help our environment by reducing energy waste hence lowering the power plant and fuel-combustion emissions.

  • Sound Insulation Performances [view PDF report]
Environmental noise has a great influence on human life. Therefore, how to improve the living space and decrease the noise pollution are important to our quality of living. The purpose of this study is to compare the properties of sound insulation between a log house and a reinforced concrete house.

  • Log Homes Appraised Value [view PDF report]
Log homes continue to appreciate and sell well, according to Nathan Prewitt, president, First Fidelity Equity Corp., Greenville, S.C., a mortgage broker. He says, "Log homes are the fastest growing segment of the custom-home real estate market today. They do extremely well compared to the appreciation and resale of other types of custom homes."
